Logs
Log Supplier
A local log supplier, which a number of residents use, is Ross Carstairs ( 07711 251682 ) who is based close to the Five Roads Roundabout. Ross will deliver to your door and when ordering he will ask you the size of logs you prefer. This is a great advantage if you require larger or smaller cut logs. His logs are not kiln dried but are of excellent quality and are probably best to be stored for a period before burning.
Bulk Purchasing of Firewood
DRA Offer from StoveCo
Logs can also be supplied by StoveCo, Guardbridge (01334 848 913 Kiln Dried Logs (thestoveco.com)) . Many residents have installed stoves and many will know StoveCo, who have an ongoing relationship with some Drumoig residents.
They are offering to deliver Kiln-Dried Birch Logs, stacked in crates of 1.2 cu.m. crate.
StoveCo has also agreed to include a “starter bundle” to include kindling and firelighters per crate.
Kiln-Dried versus Seasoned Logs
Anyone who has used both kiln-dried logs and seasoned logs will be aware of the significant difference in heat output, burning time and soot build-up. Stove manufacturers recommend only kiln-dried logs, because the moisture content in seasoned logs is higher and more variable.
StoveCo point out that their Birch hardwood comes from sustainable sources.
Delivery, storage and handling
Delivery by StoveCo would be by a vehicle with a tail-lift and a pallet trolley to position the crate. Many suppliers deliver in bulk bags of varying volumes but crates offer the advantage of having more logs per cubic metre and the crate can be used as a log store if you wish – and kindling when it is empty! They would only be able to manoeuvre the crate on a driveway with a firm surface, e.g. monobloc. Gravel drives would require the crate to be positioned wherever the vehicle could access.
Summary
Kiln-dried hardwood logs offer many advantages over seasoned logs but are typically more expensive. This StoveCo offering is attractive, it is very competitive and is approaching the price of seasoned logs.
If you wish to purchase kiln-dried logs then contact StoveCo, ask for Andy Maxwell and tell him you are a member of Drumoig Residents Association.
